What to Expect During a Telehealth Eye Exam

We understand the importance of feeling confident and comfortable with your eye care. While our in-person optometrist is currently unavailable, we are proud to offer telehealth eye exams as a safe, effective, and patient-friendly alternative.

Here’s how it works:

In-Office Pre-Testing

Your visit begins just like a traditional eye exam. You’ll enter our office, be greeted by our friendly staff, and undergo a comprehensive pre-testing process using our specialized testing equipment.

We now conduct even more detailed testing to ensure the remote doctor has all the necessary information to thoroughly evaluate your eyes.

Once pre-testing is complete, you’ll be seated in one of our private exam rooms. A trained technician will be in the room with you to assist during the exam.

The technician will position the digital phoropter (the instrument that helps determine your prescription), and the doctor will take it from there, operating it remotely while appearing on the screen in front of you.

The doctor will connect with you live on-screen, just like a video call. They’ll review your test results, ask about your eye health, discuss your prescription needs, and guide you through the “which is better, one or two?” portion of the exam.

You can ask any questions, express concerns, and feel fully supported, just as you would during an in-person visit with a doctor.

At the end of the exam, the doctor will provide you with a valid prescription for glasses or contact lenses, based on your results. We’ll assist you with your next steps immediately.

Is Telehealth Right for Me?

At Total Vision Novato, we continually seek innovative ways to enhance our patients’ lives.

Telehealth eye exams are an excellent option for patients with routine vision needs, such as updating a prescription for glasses or checking visual clarity.

For those with more complex eye health concerns, such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, or other medical conditions, we offer a limited number of appointments with a visiting in-person doctor. These appointments are in high demand and typically require prior booking.

Try It Risk-Free

We’re confident in the quality of our telehealth experience and the level of care it provides. Our patients have been highly satisfied. However, if you’re not completely comfortable with your visit, we’re happy to accommodate you with an in-person appointment (based on availability) or assist with a referral.

No matter how you choose to be seen, you’ll receive professional care, personal attention, and the convenience of staying close to home.

Please let us know if you’d like to schedule an appointment or if you have any questions. We’re here to help!
